Miami Luxury Hotel

The Delano is a luxury hotel, located in the heart of Miami. Hailed as the ultimate urban resort, the Delano is a destination unto itself. From the moment visitors enter the oceanfront Delano’s all-white entry and indoor/outdoor lobby, they will know this is a special place. Some of the Delano’s distinctive features include massive white columns, billowy sheers that hang from the ceiling and form separate lobby alcoves, and an “eat-in“ kitchen, where guests simply pull up a stool to a long marble table and choose their fare.

This luxurious 15-story hotel offers an Art Deco flavor with New York flair. The Delano’s legendary and luxurious guest rooms are appointed in white. The lobby includes a billiards area, and a lounge with stylish seating sections. The swimming pool area is truly unique and spectacular, hailed as one of the best in America. In addition to an outstanding gym facility, the Delano features a rooftop bathhouse and solarium for women, Agua. Guests enjoy private and direct access to the beach. The Delano is just steps to fine dining, shopping and entertainment venues.

Whether staying in one of the famous bungalows or just enjoying a few cocktails by the pool, the Delano Hotel, South Beach, deserves a spot on the Miami To-Do List.

When visiting the Delano Hotel in South Beach, Miami, it’s easy to get swept up in the glamour of it all. As well as being aesthetically stunning, there’s something in the air that goes beyond the fresh breeze coming in from the Atlantic Ocean.

There’s a certain refinement, an air of luxury throughout the hotel, which is just one of the reasons why the Delano has become known as one of the best hotels in Florida. When the hustle and bustle of South Beach is all too much, The Delano offers a luxurious haven for guests to relax and mingle with Miami’s beautiful people.

America’s First Indoor Outdoor Lobby

The hotel was originally built in 1947 but did not become the Delano the world knows today until hotelier Ian Schrager decided to take on South Beach in the 1990s. Schrager turned to the one and only Philippe Starck to design the landmark hotel, and Starck worked his magic.

The Delano features America’s first Indoor Outdoor Lobby, which says goodbye to bright and overly air-conditioned foyers, and hello to natural areas with billowing curtains and fresh air that blur the lines of what’s inside and what’s out.

The 16 story hotel features nine indoor and outdoor areas for guests to explore, which have been designed to create the feel of an interwoven village. There’s the rooftop spa, landscaped orchard, and half a dozen places to eat and drink throughout the hotel.

Along with some of his own original creations, including “outside furniture for the inside” and “inside furniture for the outside”, Starck uncovered an international collection of furniture and objects for The Delano. The eclectic collection puts pieces found in European flea markets alongside works from artists such as Antonio Gaudi, Man Ray, Charles and Ray Eames, Salvador Dali, and Mark Newson.

Miami Luxury Hotel Opens Straight Onto South Beach

The Delano features Starck’s first pool design, the “Water Salon”. Combining Roman Baths elements with areas for floating, meditating, sleeping, and eating, the Water Salon is one of the few places in the world where the furniture in the pool is a design feature rather than a party hangover.

More of a pool for lounging than swimming, those who do manage to get off their sun lounges and into the water will enjoy underwater classical music as well as the steady thrum of the continuous waterfall.

Guests who prefer the sounds of the ocean and a more vigorous swim need only journey a matter of meters to dive into the Atlantic. Set directly on the beach on Collins Avenue, The Delano Hotel allows guests to step from the pool area straight into the South Beach sands and beyond.

Where to Sleep in The Delano

There is a range of rooms available in The Delano, from the famous poolside bungalows to guest rooms, lofts, suites, and of course the penthouse.

With an emphasis on “barefoot chic”, each of the rooms has mirror glazed, brilliant white wide-plank wood floors with an extra layer of insulation underfoot for guest’s privacy, not to mention the peace and quiet for those below.

Described by the hotel as “models of modern simplicity”, the rooms include all the usual mod cons, such as full cable television and wireless high-speed internet access, 24-hour concierge and room service. Those who have enjoyed Miami’s nightlife will also appreciate the fact that rooms come with blackout screens so they can control what time they’re prepared to face Miami’s brilliant sunshine.

Which Room to Choose at The Delano Hotel Miami

Visitors don’t have to stay at the Delano Hotel to enjoy the restaurants, spa, or pool, but for those who do, there is a range of luxury rooms to choose from.

The Delano Hotel in South Beach, Miami, has a reputation for being one of the best hotels in Florida. A place where visitors mingle with Miami’s beautiful people by the pool and in the popular restaurants. While some have to head home or to other hotels at the end of the night, for others, it’s a short journey to their room in The Delano.

Those who have chosen to stay at The Delano have a range of options to choose from, including the famous poolside bungalows, the guest rooms, lofts, suites, and of course the penthouse.

The landmark Ian Schrager hotel was designed by Philippe Starck, and since opening in the 1990s has undergone two renovations in 2006 and 2007.

Delano Hotel Room Renovations Keep Starck White On White

When it came time to update the Delano, Morgans Hotel Group called on Tim Andreas of the award-winning boutique architecture and interior design firm Banjo. Tim Andreas has also made his mark on Schrager’s Shore Club in Miami and The Mondrian in Los Angeles.

Tim Andreas told The Design Book that while it was management’s decision to keep the white on the white concept in the guest rooms, it was a decision he agreed with.

“The Delano room is an icon. It was really the first all-white hotel room. It inspired so many imitators, not just in the hospitality field. I think you could even argue that Pottery Barn wouldn’t exist without the Delano room.”

The Delano Hotel’s Guest Rooms

At 350 square feet, the Delano’s Standard Guest Rooms have been criticized for being on the small side, and guests who want more room to move – and a balcony to soak up the ocean air on – would be better suited in one of the larger one-bedroom suites.

Described by the hotel as “models of modern simplicity”, the rooms include all the usual mod cons, such as full cable television and wireless high-speed internet access, 24-hour concierge, and room service.

Mirror glazed, brilliant white wide-plank wood floors can be found in each of the rooms, with an extra layer of insulation underfoot for guests’ privacy, not to mention the peace and quiet for those below.

Those who have enjoyed Miami’s nightlife will also appreciate the fact that rooms come with blackout screens so they can control what time they’re prepared to face Miami’s brilliant sunshine.

The Delano Hotel Bungalows are a Popular Place to Stay Beside the Pool

The emphasis on “barefoot chic” continues in the famous Delano Hotel Bungalows, which at 870 square feet are the largest and most popular rooms in the hotel.

The Bungalows feature a private patio, rainfall showers, oversized marble soaking tub, full dining room table, and wet bar. When guests are ready to splash out, the hotel pool just steps away, as is the hotel’s private piece of South Beach.

As the Delano pool turns into a popular drinking spot, complete with live DJs at night, those who prefer peace and quiet may find the party atmosphere on their doorstep a little bit much. But for those who want to savor the Miami nightlife, the Bungalows offer the chance to go from their hotel room to one of South Beaches’ top bars in one easy step.

The Delano Hotel’s Penthouse and Apartment Offer South Beach Luxury

If money is no object, the Delano Hotel’s Penthouse or Apartment could be the place to stay. Situated on the top two floors of the hotel, the Penthouse and Apartment are considered The Delano’s crème de la crème.

The Penthouse is situated on the top floor, and is described by the hotel as an “oasis of calm and ease” which “perfectly embodies the unique Delano experience.” The Delano Penthouse has large bedrooms, bathrooms crafted from imported Italian marble, complete with an enormous marble soaking tub, a walk-in wet bar, dining area, and private balcony to soak up the Miami sunshine.

The Apartment, just one floor below the Penthouse, also features generous spaces, custom Starck-designed furniture, marble bathrooms, a private terrace, and the almost trademark billowing white curtains. Both the Delano’s Penthouse and Apartment are popular to hire for private functions.

How Much Does it Cost to Stay at the Delano?
